Program Overview
Note – This course is 6 hours per week (3 hours online and 3 hours in person)
In partnership with SAIT, ECSD Dual Credit Program offers courses for students who are interested in pursuing further post-secondary education or a career as an aircraft avionics technician by learning to repair and maintain the electrical and electronic systems — including communication, navigation and data systems — in all types of airplanes and helicopters.

Course Details
Semester I September 10, 2025 - January 7, 2026: ASYS-245 Aircraft Systems I
Introduces basic aerodynamics as it pertains to fixed wing aircraft, beginning with the control, stability and performance of aircraft in flight. The learner will design and build a section of wing and test their work in a wind tunnel defining the effects of lift and drag. The principles of hydraulic fluid and the characteristics of aviation fuels required for aircraft operations are also explored, along with the basics of aircraft landing gear design and aircraft door and window systems.
Admission Requirements: Enrolled concurrently or completed Math 20-1 or 20-2 and English 20-1 or English 20-2. For the online component, students must have access to a computer with a camera and microphone. Due to the extensive time commitment of this course *see below*, students should carefully consider their semester one course load at their high school before applying to this program.
Location: St. Joseph High School, 10830 109 Street
Day/Time: Online from home on Mondays 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and in class on Wednesdays 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., for a total of 6 hours per week.
