Good Shepherd Catholic Elementary School is serving more students than it was designed to accommodate, and enrolment is expected to keep growing.
To help address the space pressures, Edmonton Catholic Schools has requested eight additional modular classrooms from the Government of Alberta. If approved, we plan to have these modular classrooms installed by Fall 2027.
ECSD is hopeful the modular classroom request will be approved, but continues to plan for all possible outcomes.
As part of that planning, Edmonton Catholic Schools is seeking feedback on temporary attendance options that would be considered if the request for all eight modular classrooms is not approved. These options would help address enrolment pressures for the 2027-2028 school year while we await the anticipated opening of St. Patrick Catholic Elementary/Junior High School in Fall 2028.

Information and Engagement Session Details
We invite Good Shepherd families to attend an information and engagement session to learn more about the options being considered, ask questions, and share feedback about how those options could affect students and families.

We shared an invitation with families via SchoolMessenger on October 22.
During the session, Edmonton Catholic Schools will explain the enrolment and space challenges and present the options under consideration. Following the presentation, representatives from Student Transportation and other Division departments will be located throughout the room to answer questions or discuss topics of interest in greater detail.
After the information and engagement session, we will share an online questionnaire with families to provide feedback.

Why is ECSD Considering Temporary Options?
Good Shepherd Catholic Elementary School continues to grow, and the school is currently serving more students than it was designed to accommodate.
With 683 students enrolled and a capacity of 505, the school's utilization rate is close to 150%. Enrolment is projected to continue increasing, with utilization expected to reach more than 160% by the 2027-2028 school year.
To prepare for that growth, ECSD is exploring temporary accommodation options that could help address space pressures until St. Patrick Catholic Elementary/Junior High School is anticipated to open in Fall 2028.
How Will Feedback Be Used?
We want to understand how each option could affect students and families.
Feedback from families will be reviewed alongside enrolment, transportation, programming, and operational considerations before a final decision is made. While feedback will help inform the process, the final decision rests with Division administration.
