French Immersion at Mother Margaret Mary

Last Updated: November 27, 2025

Edmonton Catholic Schools is exploring the possibility of offering high school French Immersion programming at Mother Margaret Mary Catholic High School, and we want to hear from you. This work builds on feedback received during the 2023-2024 French Immersion engagement and reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening French Immersion across the Division.

During the engagement process, St. John XXIII families shared that many students would continue in French Immersion if a high school option were available closer to home. Currently, most French Immersion students at St. John XXIII leave the program once they enter high school, which highlights a gap we’re working to address. Expanding high school options will help improve retention and better serve our community.

Exploring High School French Immersion at Mother Margaret Mary

A questionnaire was open from November 7 to 20, 2025, and is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared feedback. Your input will help guide Senior Administration in future decisions.

Families were asked to share their thoughts on:

  • Whether they would continue in French Immersion if it were offered at Mother Margaret Mary Catholic High School.
  • Whether they would prefer a full French Immersion program, where most core subjects are taught in French.
  • Whether they would prefer a partial French Immersion program, where French Language Arts and Social Studies are taught in French and other subjects in English.

Next Steps

No decisions have been made at this time. We’re engaging with families to understand your needs and preferences before moving forward. We will share the results of this engagement in December and are committed to keeping our community informed as we move forward.
