Updated: December 5, 2025
In advance of the opening of St. Carlo Acutis Catholic High School, Edmonton Catholic Schools invited the community to provide feedback on the proposed attendance area map and programming for the new school. Our engagement questionnaire ran from November 4–18, 2025, and received nearly 300 responses:
- 93% of respondents were parents or guardians with a child enrolled in ECSD.
- Of those respondents, nearly three-quarters had students in Grades 7–10.
What We Heard
Key insights from the questionnaire included:
- Strong support for the new school and the programs being proposed.
- High interest in language programming, with French as a Second Language identified as a priority.
- Athletics were popular, with Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming, Soccer, Football, and Golf mentioned most often.
- Sports Medicine was one of the most requested programs, highlighted by 123 respondents.
- Other areas of interest included Fitness, Graphics and Graphic Design, Robotics, and Music/Band.
- Participants emphasized the importance of clear boundaries and feeder school patterns.
Some concerns were raised about the size of the proposed boundary, transportation challenges for families east of the area, and whether the new school would effectively reduce overcrowding at Archbishop O’Leary Catholic High School.
Next Steps
Over the coming weeks, our leadership team is committed to:
- Finalizing attendance boundaries.
- Communicating feeder school alignment.
- Prioritizing programming based on community interest.
- Continuing engagement to confirm offerings and address transportation considerations.
The finalized attendance area will be shared in early 2026.

Families were asked to provide feedback on the proposed attendance area through an online questionnaire that was open from to November 4 to November 18, 2025. Edmonton Catholic Schools is now reviewing your comments and will share information with you in early 2026.
Proposed Attendance Area
As part of our planning, we are seeking your input on a proposed attendance area for this new High School. St. Carlo Acutis Catholic High School will have three feeder schools:
- Sir John Thompson Catholic Junior High School
- St. Edmund Catholic Elementary/Junior High School
- The new K-9 Catholic School in Oxford, when it is built and opens
Families in the attendance areas of Sir John Thompson, St. Edmund, and the future Oxford Catholic School are designated to St. Carlo Acutis Catholic High School. The Oxford school received planning funding from the Government of Alberta in March 2025. It will be located in the Oxford neighbourhood, closer to where most students in the area reside, and will introduce the first Catholic junior high north of 132 Avenue in Edmonton. Until full construction funding is approved, Edmonton Catholic Schools cannot begin building or confirm when the school will open.
When deciding on a proposed attendance area, ECSD takes several things into consideration:
- Sustainable growth projections
- Growth without significantly impacting enrolment at Archbishop O’Leary and St. Joseph Catholic High Schools
- Completion of residential development
- Feeder school alignment
It’s important to note that students currently enrolled at Archbishop O’Leary or St. Joseph Catholic High School will not be required to transfer to St. Carlo Acutis when it opens.
