In Spring of 2023, Edmonton Catholic Schools invited students, families, and staff to share feedback on the Division's year-round calendar. An online survey was distributed to all families, and information letters were sent to year-round and traditional-calendar school communities. The engagement sought to better understand the impact of the year-round calendar on learning, family life, and school operations .
The year-round calendar survey closed on May 5, 2023. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. The input received was considered as part of Division discussions regarding future school calendars.
No changes were made to the year-round school year calendar as a result of this engagement.
Future Engagement
Following the Government of Alberta's approval of planning funding in March 2026, Edmonton Catholic Schools will engage with the St. Alphonsus and St. Gerard school communities as planning progresses for a proposed replacement Catholic K-9 school at the St. Alphonsus site. Families, staff, students, and community members will have opportunities to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share feedback at key stages of the planning process.
Background
ECSD has three schools offering a year-round calendar to 1020 students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. These schools are:
- St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary/Junior High School
- St. Catherine Catholic Elementary/Junior High School
- St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School
Our remaining schools offer the traditional 10-month calendar. The number of instructional days for students is exactly the same for both the year-round calendar and the traditional calendar.
