Alene was raised in a large Catholic family in rural Saskatchewan, where she learned the importance of faith, family, hard work and helping others.  She has two adult children, both of whom graduated from Catholic schools, and two grandchildren.

She holds a Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Education Counselling from the University of Alberta.  She has a Graduate Diploma in Religious Education and a Masters of Religious Education, both from Newman Theological College.  Alene also holds a Certificate in Formation for Pastoral Services for Lay Ministers.

Alene’s educational career spans 27 years, spending time at a number of Alberta school divisions and in a variety of positions, including teacher, school counsellor, religious education consultant, and a coordinator for health and wellness.

Through her role as a trustee, Alene currently serves on the Division’s negotiating committee for the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and as the Board’s representative on the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA), Board of Directors.  She also serves as the alternate Board representative on the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Interpretation Committee.  She recently served for four years as the Board’s representative on the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (ACSTA), Board of Directors.

A long-time volunteer in her community, Alene has served with many organizations in a variety of capacities.  Highlights from her service include: community league member, Catholic Social Services, Board of Directors; planning committee member for ACSTA SPICE and Blueprints Conferences and Holy Childhood Mass; member, Catholic Women’s League and eucharistic minister and choir member, St. Joseph's Basilica parish.

Alene feels honored and privileged to have served as a Trustee for ECSD since 2017.  She is a strong advocate for publicly funded Catholic education. Alene will continue to work collaboratively and cohesively with the Board, Administration, and Division staff to achieve and maintain positive, safe, and caring environments in our school communities.
