Edmonton Catholic Schools Receives Planning Funding for New High Schools and K-9 School

March 19, 2025

Edmonton Catholic Schools is pleased to share that the Government of Alberta has announced Planning Funding for two new high schools and a K-9 solution school. With enrolment surpassing 50,000 students and nearly every high school over capacity, this investment is an important step in addressing critical space shortages.

"We are grateful for this investment in Catholic education. With nearly all our high schools over capacity and enrolment continuing to grow, this commitment is an important step in addressing these pressures. We look forward to advancing these projects quickly to ensure students have the spaces they need to succeed,” shared Board Chair Sandra Palazzo

New Schools to Address Growth and Overcrowding

Budget 2025, if passed, will see Planning Funding for 3 new school projects in Edmonton Catholic Schools, adding about 4,500 new and updated student spaces. The projects include:

New Catholic High School – Lewis Farms/Rosenthal (Grades 10-12)

Addressing Capacity Challenges

Edmonton Catholic Schools has seen unprecedented growth, adding nearly 7,000 students over the past three years, a 15.5% increase.

While planning funding is an essential first step, it is not construction funding. The Division is committed to working with the Government of Alberta to move these projects forward through the School Construction Accelerator Program, which aims to transition projects from planning to construction as quickly as possible.
