What a typical day looks like
A typical day for in the masonry trades (e.g. as a bricklayer) starts early, often with a team briefing to review project plans, safety protocols, and daily goals. They begin by preparing the worksite—setting up scaffolding, mixing mortar, and organizing bricks or other masonry materials. Precision is key as they carefully measure and lay bricks according to blueprints, ensuring proper alignment and structural integrity.
Throughout the day, bricklayers collaborate with other trades, such as carpenters, engineers, and site supervisors, to ensure smooth project execution. They may be involved in constructing new walls, repairing damaged masonry, or applying finishing touches like sealing joints and cleaning surfaces. Working outdoors in various weather conditions, they must stay focused on safety and efficiency.
