June 2025 Message
With the end of the school year fast approaching, we are blessed to have many wondrous things happening at Edmonton Catholic Schools. Sadly, there’s not enough space in this June Message to mention them all, but as is my custom, I will highlight a few items through the lens of truth, beauty, and goodness.
TRUTH. Jesus Christ – who is the way, the truth, and the life – appointed Saint Peter as the first pope. Edmonton Catholic Schools recently honoured the life and leadership of Pope Francis and watched history unfold when Pope Leo XIV was elected as his successor. We thank God for Pope Leo, and pray that our new shepherd continues to guide us along paths of truth.
ECSD’s theme for this year, "People of Hope," was fitting given that Pope Francis declared 2025 to be a Year of Jubilee in accordance with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”. I look back with fondness on this year’s celebrations, and look forward with hope towards a bright future for Edmonton Catholic Schools.
BEAUTY. The beauty of music draws us closer to God. If you wish to experience such grace, I encourage you to attend an Edmonton Catholic Schools tradition Sounds of Spring! Here you can celebrate the season's beauty with the gift of music shared by over 200 Junior High and High School students from across the ECSD community. The choirs perform on June 2 and the bands perform on June 4, with both concerts beginning at 7 PM at McDougall United Church.
GOODNESS. This year presented many opportunities for students to grow in mind, body, and spirit. Students engaged in faith-filled learning experiences to uncover and nurture their unique gifts and talents. In addition to their learning, they also made our world a better place through advocacy and social justice. More information about these Catholic social teaching efforts will be shared at the Public Meeting of the Board on June 18. If interested, please feel free to attend the meeting or watch the livestream.
Since this is the last monthly message for the school year, I would like to thank you for choosing Edmonton Catholic Schools. We are honoured you have entrusted us with providing a Catholic education for your family. We appreciate each and every member of our amazing ECSD community. We walk this wonderful journey together, filling our students’ minds with truth, their souls with beauty, and their hearts with goodness.
May you have an uplifting end to the school year and a glorious summer!
Sincerely,
Lynnette Anderson, Chief Superintendent
