  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Indigenous (Status not required)
  • Completed grade 10
  • Live in Western Canada
  • Be a Canadian Citizen

Alberta Public Service Student Opportunities


Do you want to work in the public service sector and get paid for it during the summer? The Alberta Public Service provides employment opportunities for secondary students as well. Opportunities for Indigenous Youth

UofA WISEST: Summer Research Program (SRP)


This opportunity is for youth who have an interest in science, engineering and/or technology. You get paid as a research assistance and work on campus at the UofA for 6 weeks. You will do research in the faculties at the UofA. 

Note from the WISEST website: "We encourage Indigenous students to participate in all of the programs and services we offer but specifically, with respect to the Summer Research Program, we hold dedicated spots for Indigenous students, and provide access to mentorship from Indigenous role models. Students can also qualify for travel and accommodation subsidies if they have to move away from home to participate in the program."

Summer Research Program

City of Edmonton: Nikaniw


This is an aquatic pre-employment program for Indigenous youth. You will receive a variety of different certification such as first aid and water safety education. Plus, you will develop leadership and life skills too! Also, integrates Indigenous teachings into their program.  Takes place during the school year!

Registration Date: August and September (Can take some throughout the year just depends on if there is space in the program)

Are you a grade 11 Indigenous student who has an interest in science and engineer? If so, you may want to check out this one-week program! You get firsthand experience doing research at the UofA! Also, make a connection with other Indigenous youth across Canada! Check out this video, she did her research at University of Manitoba. You could do your research at the UofA! :)
