Draft Social Studies Curriculum
You are invited to provide feedback on key learnings in the new draft Social Studies curriculum.
Since Fall 2023, Alberta Education has been engaging with education and community partners, along with curriculum development specialists, to develop a new social studies curriculum. Alberta Education used feedback from recent engagement activities to inform the development of:
- Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview – (English)
- Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview – (French)
- Draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum
The Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview is a high-level summary of what students learn in each grade and shows how learning progresses as students transition through grades. The draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum is a document teachers will use, providing them with a detailed outline of what students are expected to know, understand and be able to do at the end of each grade.

Alberta Education says it will consider all feedback to refine the Draft K to 6 Social Studies curriculum before its anticipated release in spring for classroom piloting in September 2024.
