Educational Planning Services helps ensure Edmonton Catholic Schools has the right spaces, programs, and services to support student learning now and in the future. From managing enrolment growth to coordinating transportation, the department plans and adapts to meet the needs of our students and families.
What We Do
Student Accommodation and Enrolment Planning
We monitor enrolment trends and work with schools to ensure students are accommodated in safe, appropriate learning spaces. This includes:
- Tracking enrolment and preparing projections
- Planning for modular classroom needs
- Reviewing school utilization and recommending changes
School Boundaries and Capital Planning
We manage school attendance boundaries and help guide long-term capital planning by:
- Developing and reviewing catchment areas
- Identifying future school sites in new neighbourhoods
- Reviewing rezoning and redistricting applications
- Coordinating the Division’s Three-Year Capital Plan and Ten-Year Facilities Strategic Plan
Programs of Choice
Educational Planning Services works closely with Learning Services to support programs that reflect the interests of our students and families, including:
- Identifying space and location needs for alternative and special needs programs
- Supporting focus programs and magnet schools
- Exploring new program opportunities in collaboration with families
- Support the coordination of Division athletic programs and serve as a liaison with School Sport Alberta.
Planning Partnerships and Community Use
We collaborate with the City of Edmonton, neighbouring school jurisdictions, and the Province to:
- Manage land use and shared school and park sites through the Joint Use Agreement
- Coordinate leases, rentals, and surplus space in school buildings
- Facilitate and advise on playground development
Transportation Services
As part of the Educational Planning Department, the Transportation Services team ensures eligible students have access to safe, reliable transportation to and from school. This includes:
- Planning and managing school bus routes
- Coordinating conditional ridership requests
- Supporting communication with families about transportation options
Strategic Planning and Reporting
We develop key planning documents that guide the future of Edmonton Catholic Schools:
- Division Plan for Continuous Growth (Three-Year Education Plan)
- Annual Education Results Report
- Three-Year Capital Plan
- Ten-Year Facilities Strategic Plan
These plans help us stay responsive, proactive, and aligned with the Division’s mission to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another.
