- Current Grade 9 students, who are entering Grade 10, may only register for 3 credit courses.
- English 30-1 and Social 30-1 are not offered through self-paced delivery.
- Not all courses are offered at each location. Courses offered can be viewed by logging into your Alternative Education online account.
- There will be no early access to online learning.

Classroom-Based (In Person) Delivery Method and Locations
Offers a traditional approach to learning within a classroom environment. Learn with direct instruction from an Edmonton Catholic School Division teacher using a wide range of instructional methods.
*One 3 credit or one 5 credit course is a maximum course load for classroom-based summer school.

Self-Paced Delivery (In Person) Method and Locations
Offers instruction for self-motivated students within a module-based learning environment. Students can access one-on-one support from curriculum specialized Edmonton Catholic School Division teachers. Students must attend the first five days of programming and until 50% of the course is complete.
*Two 3 credit or one 5 credit course is a maximum course load for self-paced summer school.

Assessment
All exams/assessments are in person. All coursework must be submitted by July 16 for 3 credit courses and July 24 for 5 credit courses. Online Delivery Method and Location
Offers a unique approach to online learning in that students can participate in an *asynchronous classroom environment supported by Edmonton Catholic School Division teachers.
*Asynchronous learning allows students to access all material needed for the course at any time so students can work at their own pace to complete in the given timeline. Should students have questions, the teacher will be available for support (via teams, email, or in-person) during the hours of 8:15AM - 1:23 PM.
Assessment
All exams/assessments are in person between the hours of 8:15AM - 1:23 PM at Lumen Christi throughout the summer school term; therefore, students must be on site for all required exams/assessments. All coursework must be submitted by July 16 for 3 credit courses and July 24 for 5 credit courses.
Note: Online CALM and Phys Ed classes do not require in-person assessments.

Cancellations, Refunds and Withdrawals
Cancellations
Edmonton Catholic Schools Alternative Education reserves the right to cancel any class where the minimum enrolment is not met. If the registration cannot be accommodated at another location, a full refund will be issued for any course cancelled by Alternative Education. Refunds can take up to four weeks to process.
Refunds
All Technology User and Program Fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Only the Caution Fee will be refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition within one year after completion of the course if applicable.
Withdrawals
Summer school withdrawals prior to June 23 at 12:00PM must be made by phone at 780-441-6080. Withdrawals after June 23 at 12:00PM, must be made at the Summer School site where the student is registered at, starting July 3.
All Technology User and Program Fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
Diploma Exam Information

Important:
Students must bring picture ID to the exam writing. Examples of acceptable picture ID are a driver’s license, school photo ID card, government-issued photo ID card, or passport.
Arrive at least 30 minutes before the time the diploma exam begins.
July 4, 2025, deadline for students who are rewriting diploma exams in August to register for the exam and pay rewrite fees. Students who are writing a diploma for the first time will be registered for their diploma exam. Students who are re-writing their exam must pre-pay for the exam online via their myPass account (https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/mypass/welcome).
Frequently Asked Questions
I will be away during July; can I take summer school?
To ensure the integrity of assessments, it is required that students come to the site to write their assessments in person. Therefore, it is not possible to travel while taking summer school courses.
*Although CALM (self-paced and online), Phys Ed (online), and Religion (self-paced) do not have major assessments, it is strongly encouraged for these courses that students be available to meet with their teacher and/or pick up/drop off materials and/or access face-to-face support where necessary.
When can I pick up my course material for a self-paced or online course?
Students registered in a self-paced course may pick up their materials (one module only) starting on June 2 upon finalizing registration with payment. Course pick up is by appointment only; call 780-441 6080. Early access to online material is not available.
How will I know the status of my classroom-based summer school course?
You will receive an email advising on the status of your course once it has been determined.
If your course is cancelled, you will receive an email advising you to call 780-441-6080. Every effort will be made to accommodate cancelled course registrations.
Note that classes are subject to enrolment minimums and courses may be relocated to another summer school site.
Can I register for online summer school?
Only current ECSD students can register for online summer school.
