Kicking Off the 2025-2026 School Year
Welcome Back!
We are excited to welcome our more than 51,000 students into a community dedicated to faith, learning, and growth. Our theme for this school year, "People of Hope," reflects our commitment to nurturing hope, joy, and peace in every aspect of our students' education.
As we embark on this new Christ-centred academic journey in our 95 schools, we strive to inspire students to develop the conceptual and procedural understanding needed for successful learning, living, and working in Alberta and beyond. Guided by our moral compass, students and staff will engage individually and collaboratively in serving the common good today while being good stewards for tomorrow.
First Day of Classes
Most Edmonton Catholic Schools (ECSD) students will return to class on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. If you are a returning junior high or high school student, please visit your school's website to confirm the date, as some schools have a staggered start and offer orientation days where students are invited to collect their timetable and textbooks. You can also locate your school's information through this directory.
Our year-round students at St. Alphonsus, St. Catherine and St. Teresa of Calcutta Schools returned to class on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Potential Labour Disruption
Edmonton Catholic Schools is preparing to welcome students back for the first day of school on September 2, and more than 1,300 students in our year-round schools are already in class. We recognise that the uncertainty around potential labour action may be challenging for families. Bargaining between the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) and the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) is taking place at the provincial level, and our Division is not directly involved.
We are committed to keeping families informed. Any new information will be shared directly with families and posted to our Labour Update webpage as soon as it is available.
Back-to-school Health Information for Families
As students return to school, Alberta Health has shared two important documents to help families stay informed about measles. These resources outline symptoms, possible complications, and what to expect if a case is identified in a school setting.
- Letter from Alberta's Interim Chief Medical Officer of Health
- Measles and Back to School: Information for Parents and Guardians
Families are encouraged to review both documents and follow public health guidance. If your child may have been exposed or is feeling unwell, please stay home and call Health Link at 811.
