National French Immersion Day

Edmonton Catholic Schools Celebrates National French Immersion Day!

On April 23, Edmonton Catholic Schools joins communities across the country in celebrating National French Immersion Day! Since 1972, French Immersion has helped students across Canada grow as bilingual, culturally aware, and globally minded citizens.

We are proud to have been part of this national journey from the beginning. French Immersion programs were first introduced in our Division between 1972 and 1974 at Holy Child, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Thomas Aquinas, and J.H. Picard.

We celebrate the students, educators, and families who make French Immersion such a vibrant part of our Division!

Watch the video below featuring ECSD and Edmonton area students sharing the benefits of learning in French.

This year's theme: Our Languages, The Bridge That Unites

This theme is a call to action to recognize the role of French Immersion programs, offered in more than 2,100 schools, in advancing official bilingualism across Canada. It is also a perfect opportunity to honour Canada's official languages, which unite students, educators, families, and all those who contribute daily to the success of French Immersion.
