ECSD Board of Trustees Appoint Chair and Vice-Chair
June 20, 2023
The Edmonton Catholic School Division (ECSD) Board of Trustees re-elected Sandra Palazzo as Chair and Lisa Turchansky as Vice-Chair for the 2023-2024 school year at its Organizational Board Meeting on June 20, 2023.
Trustee Palazzo represents Ward 72 and was first elected to the Board of Trustees in October 2017. This will be her fourth term as Board Chair.
“Continuing in the role as Board Chair is a true honour, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a Division that I am deeply passionate about. Throughout the past term, our Board has achieved remarkable milestones. I am proud to work with a team that is putting our students and Catholic education first,” shared Palazzo.
Lisa Turchansky will serve a fourth term as Vice-Chair. She was elected as Ward 76 Trustee in October 2017.
"It is an extraordinary honour to continue serving our Edmonton Catholic Schools family," said Turchansky. "This upcoming year marks 135 years of our Division serving the City of Edmonton, and I know that together with my fellow trustees, we will work to foster learning and working environments that promote academic excellence and the growth and development of every student.”
Trustees play an important role in setting the direction of the Edmonton Catholic School Division. As elected officials, Trustees are accountable to the communities they represent and exercise their leadership through governance. Trustee elections occur once every four years, coinciding with the municipal election. The most recent election took place in October 2021. In June, the Board of Trustees holds an organizational meeting where they elect the Chair and Vice-Chair and finalize committee appointments for the upcoming school year. This process ensures a robust foundation for collaborative decision-making and successful educational outcomes for our students.
