ECSD LINC operates in two schools in the City - Please see the list below.
St. Basil
The St. Patrick LINC program (previously known as One World One Centre) moved to St. Basil School in May 2023; the Clareview Rec. Centre (previously known as Sacred Heart) moved into St. Basil in April 2025. This new site provides four progressive levels of CLB (1 to 4) and Literacy (Foundation L to 4L) classes, as well as a CLB 4L class which focuses on listening and speaking skills for citizenship preparation. We offer full time morning and afternoon classes as well as part time evening classes. St. Basil LINC is one of the only schools in Edmonton that teaches exclusively literacy classes.
Centrally located near numerous bus routes, St. Basil is just a 16-minute walk from NAIT's LRT station.
St. Basil offers,
- a playground, a gymnasium, and a student lounge with access to other meeting areas.
- summer programming for students who have children in the K-9 school systems so that students are able to continue with their studies throughout the summer.
- partnerships with Catholic Social Services, Action for Healthy Communities, Early Learning Outreach Programs, and Edmonton Public Libraries.
- continuous enrollment (year round) allowing for uninterrupted learning for our students.
The full time program has 22 full time instructors, 2 administrative assistants, 1 lead instructor and 2 full time coordinators. The part time program provides a good alternative for students who need to work during the day; sessions run for 10 months from September to June and classes are held 3 times a week. The part time staff consists of 8 instructors, 1 lead instructor, 2 administrative assistants, and 2 coordinators.
Our literacy classes are designed for newcomers to Canada who have had limited, interrupted or no formal schooling in their country of origin. Although we cover all aspects of learning English: listening, speaking, reading and writing, our literacy classes provide slowly paced and focused learning in reading and writing. Students have the advantage of working with instructors who are specially trained to meet literacy needs. Additionally, we also address the need for digital literacy among our students. We utilize a range of learning experiences, some of which include inviting guest speakers to classes and going on field trips.

St. Francis of Assisi Women's Program
St. Francis of Assisi Women's Literacy LINC program has the distinction of being the only Women's LINC program in Alberta. Located in Northeast Edmonton, near the Belvedere LRT station. St. Francis has the unique opportunity to provide special interest women's workshops and activities such as women's health and hygiene, cooking, sewing and embroidery (see Student Information for more details on activities), financial literacy and fashion shows! Other services include settlement and orientation information, guest speakers, field trips, computer-assisted learning, and Care for Newcomer Children (19 months to 5 years old) on site.
This school changed its CLB classes to Literacy classes in January 2016. This means classes teach listening and speaking with an emphasis on reading and writing. With 10 classes, workshops and special activities are offered depending on demand and availability. Foundation L to 4L levels classes are currently available.
