Catholic Education Sunday 2022
As for us, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. Micah 4:5
On Sunday, November 6, we will gather together and celebrate the gift of publicly funded Catholic education. The theme for this year's Catholic Education Sunday is “Walking Together in Catholic Education”.
One year ago, our Holy Father called the faithful to experience a synodal process of communal listening, dialogue and discernment in relation to the mission of the Church. He described this as an invitation to the People of God to “walk together in faith”. In 2022, the Holy Father modelled the synodal experience when he welcomed Inuit, First Nations, and Métis delegates to the Vatican. Then, in his recent penitential pilgrimage to our nation, Pope Francis walked with us on the journey towards truth and reconciliation.

As essential participants in the mission of the Church, Catholic schools have a vital role to play in providing opportunities for our students to encounter Jesus and walk with him. As we gather to celebrate Catholic Education Sunday, let us offer prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of Catholic schools, together with petitions for the beloved young people entrusted to our care.
Chief Superintendent's Message for Catholic Education Sunday
The Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories have declared the theme for Catholic Education Sunday this year to be “Walking Together in Catholic Education.” Most certainly, it is a time for us to give thanks for the great gift of publicly funded Catholic education that we enjoy in this province.
This year, I invite you to reflect upon and give thanks for those whom you journey alongside in this amazing vocation of Catholic education. We are blessed to be part of an amazing community in Edmonton Catholic Schools. Our colleagues, our students and their families, and our parishes all come together in the name of Jesus to grow and flourish. That is truly a beautiful gift worthy of much celebration.
Thank you for all that you do in the service of Catholic education and each other!
