 Ukrainian Dance Academy
Ukrainian Dance Academy
The goal of the Ukrainian Dance Academy is to provide students with the opportunity to experience Ukrainian culture, learn the history of Ukrainian dance, build flexibility for other sports and leadership opportunities, and create lifelong friendships. It comprises classical ballet, character ballet, and Ukrainian dance techniques.
Performances
Learning the steps and choreography is one of the skills of dancing; the other skill is performing. To develop this skill, our academy gives our students ample amount of opportunities to showcase their learning. Performances are held at school, in the community, and at special events.
School
Family members are invited twice a year to observe a full class, where students demonstrate what they have learned. Dance academy students also perform at school events such as Open Houses, Christmas, and year-end Concerts.
Community and Special Events
We look for community and special events to give our dance students opportunities to perform in front of larger crowds. Examples of these include the Ukrainian Bilingual Program 45th Anniversary, Edmonton Oil Kings hockey games, and Celebration of the Arts.
Field Trips
Students participate in field trips in and out of school, which gives our students opportunities to learn more from other professionals in the dance world. Edmonton has a rich community of Ukrainian Dance ensembles and artistic directors. Our students tour the studios, learn new steps, and add to their dance repertoire. They also take in matinees of various touring Ukrainian Dance ensembles to understand what years of dedication and practice can look like. These experiences are inspirational and aspirational for our students.
