ECSD has several programs that help students reach out beyond our strong standard classroom experiences. These programs help students of all backgrounds meet their educational needs in a variety of ways.
Career and Technology Studies
Commonly referred to as CTS, these High School Option Courses are available to students in school, with possible connections to off campus. CTS Includes courses such as Construction, Foods, Fashion, Sports Medicine, Computer based training, and much more.
Career and Technology Foundations
Commonly referred to as CTF, these Junior High Courses are related to the High School courses of CTS, but at a level and style more in line for Junior High Studies. They are not pre-requisites for High School courses but can assist students in learning about their strengths and career interests.
Registered Apprenticeship Program
Commonly referred to as RAP, this program allows students to learn and practice their future Trade in the workplace. This is a specialized program for students who wish to gain experience about working in the Trades in Alberta. The Trades program is an Alberta Government regulated certification process, and RAP is an option for students to start learning about, and earning hours for, a trade in High School. Students focus on a particular trade, of which there are many options, earn High School credits and hours towards their future career while in school. These careers include areas such as: construction, culinary, baking, cosmetology, and many more.
Work Experience
This general interest work program allows Edmonton Catholic School Division students an opportunity to discover their career interests through meaningful work activities, situated in community-based work sites in business, industry, government, and community service. Credits for graduation are available based upon a minimum number of work hours and other conditions.
Internships
Internships are more career oriented than general work experience but are for industries that fall outside of the RAP and trades. These tend to fall in areas such as information technologies, medical fields, and a wide variety of specialized programs. This growing work experience area has increased the range of different career-oriented work experiences.
Dual Credit
This program allows students to take courses in High School, while also receiving Alberta Post-Secondary credits, at the same time. This allows students to investigate career options before leaving High School.
Science Technology Engineering (Arts) and Math
Commonly referred to as STEM or STEAM, these programs, available from Elementary to High School, are focused on honing higher level and critical thinking skills, integrating content across curriculum. Also, they prepare students for the complex and interconnected world of work while cultivating global leaders and environmental stewards.
Braided Journeys
Braided Journeys Student Support Centres are committed to assisting students in achieving success. As part of Indigenous Learning Services, Braided Journeys helps students in a variety of education areas, including career education and job placements.
Alternative Education
Student Support Services provides alternative educational opportunities and programs to youth, adults and children within the Edmonton Catholic Schools’ community. The student centred programs are highlighted by the outreach junior and senior high school programs for students (grades 7-12) in need of an alternative delivery model. Alternative Education assists with several students who are enrolled in work experience, internships, or RAP programs.
