Draft Curriculum Feedback
February 1, 2022
Have your say on the draft K-6 curriculum
Take part in a virtual engagement session until February 28 to share specific, constructive feedback that will help Alberta’s government strengthen the draft kindergarten to Grade 6 (K-6) curriculum. There will be regional sessions on each subject and the draft K-6 Social Studies design blueprint to hear diverse viewpoints from Albertans across the province.
During each session, you will:
- receive an overview presentation on the draft K-6 curriculum
- break into focused, small group sessions about one subject or the blueprint, facilitated by an independent engagement specialist
- share your feedback and hear the perspectives of other Albertans
All sessions will be in English, except for French First Language and Literature, which will be facilitated in French. Live closed captioning and French facilitation will be provided for English sessions if needed.
Register for a session
The virtual engagement sessions will be held in five regions: north, Edmonton and surrounding area, central, Calgary and surrounding area, and south. This will enable communities to share local insights and unique perspectives on the draft K-6 curriculum. Alberta Education is encouraging you to register for sessions in your region, or you may take part in any session that works best for you. The two-hour Zoom sessions are open to all Albertans. Anyone under 18 years old must participate with a parent or guardian. To register, visit: https://www.alberta.ca/curriculum-have-your-say.aspx

Next steps
Alberta’s government is committed to a transparent curriculum development and review process. In the spring, the government will carefully consider the feedback from all engagement opportunities and classroom piloting to:
- finalize the Social Studies design blueprint and develop the corresponding draft curriculum
- finalize the K-6 curriculums for English Language Arts and Literature, Mathematics, and Physical Education and Wellness
- further revise draft K-6 curriculums for Science, Fine Arts, French Immersion Language Arts and Literature, and French First Language and Literature
While Edmonton Catholic Schools decided not to participate in the pilot project, we are encouraging parents, staff, and the community to provide Alberta Education with feedback on the draft curriculum and learn more. Your feedback will help refine the draft K-6 curriculum before it is implemented in classrooms across the province in September 2022.
