Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship
The Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship program is designed for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the cabinetmaking trade. This offering introduces students to a variety of tools, practical trades skills, and safety considerations while preparing students for workplace expectations and further apprenticeship training. Through a combination of theory learning and hands-on experiences, students will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to meet Alberta's first period Cabinetmaker apprenticeship standards.
The Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship program covers the same material that is taught in post-secondary institutions. Concepts are taught by a teacher who is also a Red Seal Journeyperson Cabinetmaker with the credentials, expertise, and technical knowledge to deliver a post-secondary curriculum in a high school setting.
By the end of this program, students can expect to earn a total of 15 thirty-level high school credits. After successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to take the first period apprenticeship exam. Upon passing the exam and completing an additional 1360 hours of on-the-job experience, students will achieve second-year recognition as a cabinetmaker — giving them a significant head start in the industry!
