Join your Board of Trustees for the Division-wide Community of School Councils (COSC) Evening

ECSD parents and guardians are invited to join your Edmonton Catholic Schools Board of Trustees, Chief Superintendent, Division Leaders, and Division staff for an in-person evening with a variety of pre-registered sessions designed to help you explore various aspects of your child’s educational experiences and opportunities. The purpose of the COSC evening is to create a dialogue between home and school to build awareness of and participation in student learning. 

Please note: This event is tailored for parents and guardians and not intended for students or children. 

Event Schedule:

  • 6:15 - 6:45 PM: Arrival and light refreshment
  • 6:45 - 7:00 PM: Welcome presentation in Leadership Hall
  • 7:10 - 7:50 PM: Breakout session 1
  • 8:00 - 8:40 PM: Breakout session 2

Session Description
Deepening the Faith of Elementary StudentsDiscover how our Elementary Religion program fosters spiritual growth and a deeper understanding of faith through engaging lessons and activities. Join us to learn more about what the students are learning and explore how parents and guardians can help nurture their child's connection to God and their community. 
Deepening the Faith of Secondary StudentsDiscover how our Junior High and High School Religion programs foster spiritual growth and a deeper understanding of faith through engaging lessons and activities. Join us to learn more about what the students are learning and explore how parents and guardians can help nurture their child's connection to God and their community. 
ECSD High School EssentialsJoin us for an informative session where participants will learn about the high school experience within ECSD. This session will provide valuable information on high school basics, including credits, courses, various course pathways, prerequisites, and the three graduation routes available to students. There will also be time for questions.
Career and Trades Opportunities for ECSD Students

Join us as we explore the diverse career and trades opportunities available to ECSD students. We will discuss offerings such as:

  • Work Experience
  • TEPF Trades Careers Program
  • Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
  • CTS courses and apprenticeship pathways

Whether your child is considering a future in the skilled trades, or you are simply curious about the possibilities, this session will equip you with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions.

Safe and Caring Schools: Responding to RacismECSD strives to ensure welcoming, safe and caring schools. Learn how to support your child if they experience or witness racism. We will review how the Division responds and strategies for you to support your child. 
Reimagining the Three R’s - Bringing Joy to Math At Home (Audience K-6)Join us for an exciting session where you’ll learn new ways to amplify how you relate to your child in a positive and joyful way around math, building a strong relationship that fosters a love for learning. You’ll reimagine math as something that happens everywhere—whether it’s cooking, shopping, or playing games—and see how easy it is to weave math into everyday tasks. Plus, we’ll show you how to reinforce math concepts in ways that go beyond worksheets, turning everyday moments into meaningful learning opportunities!
Supporting Mental Health at Home

Supporting mental health begins at home, where parents play a crucial role in fostering an environment that promotes resilience, emotional well-being, and open dialogue. This session will cover:

  • Building resilience through relationship
  • How sleep affects mental health and how to create good sleep routines
  • Navigating Technology Use: When is it useful? When is it not? Advice for managing technology.
  • De-Stigmatizing Mental Health: How to keep channels of communication open, model discussions about emotions and provide language to address feelings and thoughts.
  • Accessing resources in your community and within ECSD
Understanding AI and Digital Citizenship in the Digital Age

Join us for an engaging session exploring the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Citizenship. Let’s look at AI's role in education and daily life within the context of digital literacy and. Children are growing up in a world where artificial intelligence is quickly embedding itself in many everyday tools, 

During this session, we will learn tools and technologies using AI, strategies for fostering safe online behaviors, and how to model positive participation in a digital world. Gain confidence in navigating this ever-changing landscape and supporting your child in becoming a thoughtful, empowered digital citizen. 

Supporting Your Child's Success in Language Programs

Join us as we explore the various ways to support your child's success in language programs. We will discuss topics such as:

  • Benefits of language programs 
  • Strategies for supporting language learning at home 
  • Resources and tools for parents 
  • Collaborating with teachers and schools

Whether your child is already enrolled in a language program or you are considering this option, this session will provide you with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions and support your child's multilingual journey.

Navigating School SocietiesThis session will provide an overview of the role of school societies and the related paperwork. Key topics will include incorporation certificates, bylaws, AGLC documentation and deadlines, as well as information about casinos.
