Project Overview and Modernization Phases

J.H. Picard Elementary/Junior/Senior High School opened in 1955 as St. Mary's. In 1990 the J.H. Picard French Immersion program relocated to this site and is now home to more than 700 students. J.H. Picard School is the District's only Kindergarten to Grade School that offers single-track French Immersion programming. In addition J.H. Picard School has the Advanced Placement program and a Fine Arts Academy.​

What to Expect​


Full building renovati​ons will be addressed in phases around continued construction​

  • Total Mechanical & Electrical upgrades
  • Electronic & Security upgrades
  • Exterior door & window upgrades
  • Upgrades to most of the interior finishes i.e. hardware
  • Replacement of damaged/old lockers
  • Hazardous material abatement will follow construction phasing
  • Selective interior door/frame replacement
  • Selective interior ceiling/floor replacement
  • Selective roof replacement
  • Fire code upgrades i.e. sprinklering, alarm system & fire separations
  • Accessibility upgrades i.e. barrier free improvements
  • Washroom & locker room upgrades
  • Parking lot & drop-off zone upgrades

Main Entrance
Relocation of main entrance with new pavement and landscaping. As well as a creation of an entry waiting area with direct access to the cafeteria & central corridor system

General Office
Reconfiguration of current office to compliment the new main entrance

From second to main floor – just off the new front

Weight room, CTS lab, Sound & Editing Studio modernization

Second Floor
Minor Science, Foods & Fashion room upgrades

New Team Teacher Instructional Classroom

Offers additional student work space for flexible programming
