Varsity Men's Basketball - 2017
This year’s Varsity Men’s Basketball team had a rollercoaster of a season. We started off the season with an impressive third place finish at the Notre Dame Cougar Classic in Red Deer (4A tourna-ment). The following week we won Consolation Finals in our own Green and Gold Classic Tournament. As always the boys enjoyed attending the St. Joes Father Michael Troy Tournament but only for the food and massages! We won Gold in our last tournament of the year: The Morinville Invitational. This tournament was bitter sweet for our team as we ended up losing our point guard to a potentially career ending knee injury. Good luck Josh! Injuries were our Achilles heel this season. Our captain, Israel Abbey, suffered a torn ACL early in the season and struggled in his attempt to play throughout the season – Get well soon! Even with all the injuries we managed to have a competitive and memorable season, only missing our league playoffs by one point. Thanks to all the players for a great season. To all the graduates, good luck in your future endeavors!
Varsity Women's Basketball 2017
This year the varsity women’s basketball team had a group of ten girls who bonded as a group and had lots of fun. Often with a short bench, the girls competed the best they could. Our team started to peak at the St. Joes tournament, where we lost a close semi final to the home team with a big crowd of spectators. We competed in difficult tournaments against some of the top 3A and 4A schools. After finishing third in league, we had a disappointing end to our season as we fell short in playoffs. Overall, despite many stumbling blocks, the team improved and learned lots about commitment and what it takes to be a student athlete.
