Varsity Men's Basketball - 2016

This year our Varsity Men’s Basketball team enjoyed a season filled with exciting close games both in league and tournament play. We finished our season with a record of 4 wins and 5 losses. The level of competition that our team displayed every game was great to watch. Some of the highlights from the season include finishing 3rd in the Lilian Osborne Invitational as well as Saints Invitational tournament in St. Paul. Also, playing against a 4A caliber team from Germany in the Father Michael Troy Basketball Classic (St. Joe’s High school) and only losing by 6 points.  I want to thank all the players for a great season and especially the players that are graduating this year. These young men have dedicated their time and energy over the past six years to barons basketball and I thank them for their dedication. Good Luck on your future endeavors.

Varsity Women's Basketball 2016

The 2015-2016 season was a rebuilding year with only two veteran gr. 12  players: Brooke Riesterer and Katie Hogan, two girls who have been in the LSL Athletics program since gr. 7. Both these athletes won many individual MVP awards throughout the season, they will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. The team did show plenty of grit and perseverance when facing tougher more experienced teams, like Mac, Chestemere, Wetaskiwin (Ranked teams). Fortunately, we have many up and coming players who will carry the torch in the years to come, such as Ivanka Kulasik, Lesia Bogdan, Maria Baclig, Saphirah Jamerson, and especially Abby Bruyer who is a proven leader on and off the court.  Another light for the future is the acquisition of players from our JV womens program - who were City Finalists! One of the highlights of the season was attending a tournament in High River.  The girls came together to compete against the top ranked basketball teams in Alberta.  This style of competition proved to only elevate the intensity and skill level of the Baron's game play.
Overall the girls played their hearts out throughout the basketball season and had represented Louis St.Laurent Baron's Basketball with great pride and honor.
