Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at St. Francis Xavier High School.   I truly hope that everybody including staff, parents and students have had a restful and relaxing summer and have been able to recharge their batteries for the start of a new school year.  We are excited to welcome a new group of grade 10 students and any new grade 11 and 12 students who will be coming to FX for the coming year.  Would also like to welcome back our returning grade 11 and 12 students.  I am looking forward to another wonderful year.

This coming year we welcome back five teachers who have been away on leave for the past year and welcome a new assistant principal Nathan Koelmans who will be coming to us from Mother Margaret Mary High School.  Nathan has extensive high school experience especially in the area Science.  We are looking forward to bringing Nathan into our admin team and part of our staff.  Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to Angela Zapisocki who will be taking on a principalship position at St. Martin School.  We wish her all the best and thank her for the dedication, commitment and compassion she brought to her job every day.

Next year we will be entering the fifth year of the Alberta High School Redesign project.  This project does allow schools the flexibility to try different initiatives to enhance student learning without been bound by 25 hours of instruction for every credit earned.  Part of this initiative is that students have access to a flex block of 40 minutes right after block 2 Monday to Thursday.  This gives student access to their instructors for extra support as there are no classes scheduled during this time.  We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity.  This project also challenges teachers to evaluate their teaching pedagogy and continually look at evaluating their teaching practices as well.

I would like to encourage all parents to get involved in our Parent Council Association.  Meetings are held Bi-Monthly starting in October. We would like to invite all parents to a Meet the Teacher night on September 14th at 7:00 PM

On another note we are looking at doing something a little different in  regards to course changes in the fall.  We are asking students/parents to book use a new on-line booking program to schedule an appointment for a course change if they need one.  Please use the instructions on the following page to guide you through the process of scheduling an appointment.

I am looking forward to starting a new year and getting a chance to meet all the new and returning students for the 2017-2018 school year.  If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call the school to get in touch with myself or the grade coordinators.

Next year the grade coordinators are as follows:

  • Grade 10 Mr. Nathan Koelmans
  • Grade 11 Mr. Michael Mauro
  • Grade 12 Mrs. Anna Olivieri

God Bless
