Program Description


FX High Performance Academy (FXHP) is a program of the highest level that is dedicated to supporting elite calibre hockey players/athletes with their academic and athletic goals. FXHP is built around the Hockey Canada 4 Pillars of Player Development: Physical, Mental,  technical, and Life Skills and the Hockey Canada Player Development Pyramid.

On-ice Program Description


On-ice, athletes will be working with players of high skill and determination. On-ice technical curriculum will be supported by video, document resources, presentations, and high-level instruction. The on-ice technical curriculum will be designed using Hockey Canada’s Player Development Pyramid as the framework. This includes:

Technical Skills:

  • Skating (Stride, Edges, Acceleration, Quick feet, Punch turns, Jab steps, Crossovers, etc.)
  • Puck-handling (Range of Motion, Extensions, Quick hands, Pulls, Pushes, Drags, etc.)
  • Passing (Range of Motion, Reception, Forehand, Backhand, Slip, Area, Indirect, etc.)
  • Shooting (Inside leg, Outside leg, In stride, Quick release, Deception, In-tight, etc.)
  • Checking (Stick checks, Separation, Hips through hands, Body checking, Protection, etc.).

Individual Tactics:

  • Offensive (1v1, Puck protection, Entries, Net Drives, Delays, Down-low play, etc.);
  • Defensive (1v1, Separation, Defensive habits, Active Stick, Using body as a tool, etc.).

Team Tactics:

  • 2v1 Skills;
  • 3v2 Skills;
  • Puck management/possession;
  • Playing away from the puck (offensive and defensive)


On-Ice Training Personnel



Warren Sanregret - FX Hockey Academy Director  Warren has over 10 years experience teaching and coaching in Hockey Academies, along with numerous development camps and skill sessions throughout the city. In 2009, he was hired on with St. Edmund Hockey Academy, and spent 8 years as a skill instructor.  In 2018, he took over as Director of St. Francis Xavier Hockey Academy where he continues to strive to find creative ways to offer school-based hockey programs at the highest level.
Stephen Zipp- Teacher / High Performance Skill Instructor Stephen is an alumni of St. Francis Xavier Hockey program. In just a few short years since his playing days with the MacEwan Griffins, Stephen has coached with the U of A Golden Bears, Swift Current Broncos, MacEwan Griffins and most recently with the Spruce Grove Saints. He is a WHL scout for the Kamloops Blazers as well as a skills coach for various Jr. A, NCAA, WHL, AHL, and NHL players.
Joel Lenius - High Performance Skill Instructor Joel is currently the Technical Director for Hockey Edmonton and has a tremendous skill instruction background with numerous certifications from Hockey Canada. His experience includes working with The Edmonton Oilers, GMU Griffins, NAIT Ooks, St. Edmund Hockey Academy, Team Alberta U16 (female), Hockey Canada National Women’s Team, Edmonton Oilers Hockey Institute among many others. Joel played professionally in Europe and has also been a presenter at numerous clinics and conferences and is excited to join the FX staff. 
Dan Kordic - High Performance Skill Instructor Dan played his Junior Hockey with the Medicine Hat Tigers winning a Memorial Cup in 1988. He was selected 88th overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. Dan spent his career playing with the Flyers as well as the Hershey Bears, and the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL. Since retiring, Dan has devoted his time to coaching and a skill development. He has coached with the U of A Golden Bears, the Kamloops Blazers along with being high performance skill instructor at St. Edmund and St. FX hockey academies.


Dryland Training Personnel - ARCHETYPE


Simon Bennett - Simon is the former Director of High Performance to the Edmonton Oilers. He has made significant contributions to the fitness industry and sport performance training including the invention and co-creation of ViPR currently being sold worldwide. Simon, the founder of Archetype, leads our mission in defining a new model of wellness.
Joel Schneider - Joel is the former Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Edmonton Oilers. He worked for the Oilers for 5 seasons after completing the NAIT Personal Fitness Trainer Program. Mow the Health and Human Performance Manager at Archetype, Joel leads the Performance Coaching team in providing our members and clients with the tolls to live a high performance lifestyle.

Academics


St. Francis Xavier is a deeply rich environment which offers a broad spectrum of academic programs that support all learners regardless of stream. Teachers work with all students through authentic connections to help them find success in their classes.  We offer Advanced Placement classes to Knowledge Employability and every stream in between. Students also access a full complement of option courses such as Career and Technology Services, Languages, Fine Arts and Physical Education.

$4500 / athlete + clothing fees (fees differ depending on package chosen by families)

Program Application Process


This program will be populated through both recruitment and application based practices. FX High Performance Academy members would undergo the same screening practices as current academy members, but would be subject to an interview process to gain optimal insights into their desire and commitment to the program (parent or guardian would also be part of the process).
