Matt Mackenzie - Special Teams Coordinator

Matt brings a wealth of experience to our academy as special teams coach as a four year NCAA Division 1 athlete with a major in sociology with a minor in business administration.

Matt was also a five year member of Edmonton Miners Junior A in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League where he won several provincial championships and made appearances in the Minto Cup.

Attended St. Francis Xavier where he was the school’s top male athlete in 2008.

Three-time lacrosse captain and team MVP in lacrosse and rugby as a senior. Competed in football, track, volleyball, badminton and swimming.

Was a member of two rugby championship teams and the 2006 Metro Edmonton football championship team.

Attended the Hill Academy where as a left-handed midfielder he played for Major League Lacrosse all-star Brodie Merrill.



Matt was a four year Great Dane at the University of Albany:

2012: Played in 15 games during the season, starting two… Scored one goal on the season in the game against Hartford (4/7)… Took 15 face-offs, winning five of them…Picked up 10 ground balls.

2011: Played in all 15 games in the mid-field, starting one… Scored two goals on the season, with both coming against Syracue (3/15)… Took 47 Face offs on the season,winning 15 off them.Picked up 13 ground balls and caused four turnovers.

2010: Named to the 2010 America East Conference All-Rookie Team … recorded a .430 face-off percentage … team-high 61 ground balls … ranked 44th nationally in ground balls at 3.81 per game … career-high 11 GBs at UMBC on April 17 … America East Rookie of the Week on March 22 … scored first career goal, picked up nine ground balls and won 13 of 21 draws vs. Drexel.

Played one season for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the Western Lacrosse Association and signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Rush.
