Religious Studies

All students enrolled within Edmonton Catholic Schools must complete Religious Studies 15, 25 and 35 in order to receive a High School graduation diploma from Edmonton Catholic Schools.

Religious Studies 15 (3 credits) Christ and Culture


Religion 15 course examines the idea that God is always present and active in our culture. This program helps students gain a deeper understanding of the mystery of life and love in Jesus Christ and its permeation in everyday life. The curriculum deals with the following themes: humanity, modern culture, God’s revelation, relationships, social justice, sacraments, liturgy, discipleship and service. Students will explore the call to live Christian lives.

Exams, assignments, discussion, projects and a Christian Action component are tools used for evaluation.

Religious Studies 25 (3 credits) Scripture


The Religion 25 course challenges students to look at Scripture more in-depth and with critical thinking. Students examine the following themes: religious foundations, world religions, the Bible, Old Testament history, the New Testament and Jesus - human and divine. The curriculum is designed to explore our relationship with God through the revelation of Scripture and examination of Judeo-Christian roots.

Exams, assignments, discussion, projects and a Christian Action component are tools used for evaluation.

Religious Studies 35 (3 credits) In Search of the Good


The aim of In Search of the Good is to assist young men and women to understand themselves as moral persons living the way of Christ through an examination of ethical theories, the revelation of sacred Scripture, and the experience and teaching of the Catholic Church.
