Curriculum

When enrolled in the St. Thomas More Hockey Academy the students will average 12 ice sessions per month. On-ice sessions include hockey fundamentals such as skating, puck-handling, checking, passing, and tactics. On-ice sessions take place in a number of west edmonton arenas. When students are not on ice they are exposed to sport specific fitness training, boxing, yoga, stickhandling and shooting. Every day, players are working on either shooting or stickhandling, and they are learning some new aspects of the game. The academy also provides video analysis of each student’s stride and shooting techniques.

The St. Thomas More Hockey Academy is open to boys and girls at varying levels of skill development. Students take their core academic subjects in the morning and participate in the sports academy in the afternoon. The academies offer dedicated training in the student’s chosen sport as well as cross-training and fitness activities. Admission to the sports academies at St. Thomas More is dependent upon satisfactory standing in academic courses.

Our Mission

To provide students with a catholic education in a supportive and caring environment predicated on Catholic principles such as justice, truth, and righteousness, where students are given opportunities to live their faith, to develop compassion and empathy for others, to strive for excellence in academics, athletics and to develop a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Our Process

The St. Thomas More Hockey Academy takes great pride in our diverse and in-depth coaching methods and techniques. We teach the game at every level, from the basic skills required for the next level, to the aspects that make our game the most challenging and rewarding sport on earth. As each student-athlete varies in his or her method of learning, so too do our methods of teaching vary in accordance with individual character traits and differing personalities. The ice is our classroom, and the educational background driving our instructors ensures an inclusive environment that constantly pushes each individual toward their own personal potential.

Check back often for updates regarding practices, fitness methods, and other information regarding our instructors. Combined with the blog, we intend to be the industry leader in interaction with our parent group.
