Empowering learners and Leaders through Christ.
Creating, Engaging, Loving and Growing together through Christ.
Francis Bernadone was born in 1181 to Pietro and Pica Bernadone in Assisi, Italy. Francis’ father was a cloth merchant and the family was well off.
Francis devoted his life to God and has become known to all the world as Saint Francis of Assisi. The many stories told about him illustrate the simple life of a man who carried God’s message of love to everyone. Francis founded a religious community of men which is now known as the Franciscans. The members of this community own nothing. They are called friars. Francis also helped a woman named Clare organize a community for women. This community is known as the Poor Clares.
Francis, just like children, was filled with wonder at all of creation, and children feel a closeness to him. They especially appreciate his recognition that animals are God’s creatures, too. Francis’ message to us at St. Francis of Assisi school is that all of God’s people are brothers and sisters. We are invited to include everyone in the membership of the family of God.
The Prayer of Saint Francis
"O Lord, make me an instrument of Thy Peace!
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light, and
Where there is sorrow, joy.
Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved
as to love; for it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life."
