December is already upon us and it marks the season of Advent, the beginning of the liturgical year. While it expresses the deep longing of all humanity for God, it celebrates the coming of the Lord, remembering the events that surrounded the Lord's coming, celebrating his coming among us today, and looking forward to his final coming in glory.

We celebrate this season symbolically with the Advent wreath, made up of 3 main elements; 3 purple candles symbolizing our waiting, hoping, longing expectation for the arrival of Christ, one pink candle reminding us that the time of Christ's arrival is fast approaching and finally the evergreens that make up the wreath which remind us of everlasting life He promised us.

As a joyful people we celebrate this season in the same way as we celebrate all our success over the first third of the year.  We are thankful for the hard work and success our students have had over the term not only in their school work but also with their teams, clubs, ability to work and to play with one another that truly reflect the Kingdom of God with us in all that we do.  With anticipation we await our well-deserved Christmas holidays, a time of family, celebration, rest and relaxation in preparation for the next third of the year that lies in wait for us come January.

On behalf of the entire faculty at St. Basil, wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and the best for the New Year.
