In keeping with Edmonton Catholic Schools Policy 103  regarding the Admission of Students, we welcome all students. According to our District's Policy, which speaks to School Catchment Area, all schools within the ECSD have defined attendance and catchment areas. Accordingly, a school is required to register all resident students residing within its catchment area. Where space and resources permit, other resident students of the district, or non-resident students may be admitted to a particular school.

The mandate of Edmonton Catholic Separate School District No. 7 is to provide a Catholic education for all resident students of the district appropriate to their educational requirements. As well, nonresident students who express a desire to avail themselves of such an educational program will be enrolled provided that adequate resources are available. All students are expected to participate in the religious life of the school at least to the level of being respectfully attentive.

Not only does this reflect the requirements of the School Act but also that of the Congregation for Catholic Education.

"The Catholic school fulfills a service of public usefulness and, although clearly and decidedly configured in the perspective of the Catholic faith, is not reserved to Catholics only, but is open to all those who appreciate and share its qualified educational project."

(The Catholic School on the Threshold of the Third Millennium).

Each principal or other personnel designated by the superintendent is responsible for admitting students to the district in accordance with the administrative policies and regulations of the district.

A resident student of Edmonton Catholic Separate School District No. 7 is one who:

1. is a Catholic; or

2. has at least one parent who is a Catholic (e.g., in situations where, by court order, custody is granted to a non-Catholic parent or the Catholic parent has died and the child has not been registered in a Catholic school, then the child would be deemed to be a resident student); or

3. under the authority of the Child Welfare Act, has been placed in a foster home where the foster parent is resident of the Edmonton Catholic Separate School District No. 7;

4. resides within the corporate limits of the City of Edmonton;

5. is six years of age or older on or before March 1 of the current school year;

6. is nineteen years of age or younger as of September 1 of the current school year;

7. in the case of a kindergarten student, is 5 years of age or older on or before March 1 of the current school year.

Note: Residency requirements do not apply to kindergarten students.

Students who do not comply with the conditions outlined above are considered nonresident students.

An adult student is one who is nineteen (19) years of age as of September 1 of the current school year.

Foreign students are referred to as International students. Please refer to Administrative Policy and Regulation 103.1 for further details.

Attendance area means the region within the established boundaries of a school. The boundaries are depicted on the Edmonton Catholic Schools School Attendance Areas Maps.

Catchment area includes the attendance area of the school and the other areas for which the district has designated the school as the receiving school for students residing in specific neighbourhoods with no local elementary schools or areas with no junior or senior high schools.
