A Brief Guide to Elementary reporting in PowerSchool

September 2019

Message from the Administration

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. We trust that the summer has given you time for relaxation and renewal. We look forward to a wonderful year with many opportunities for learning and growing. Our theme for this year, Walking Together in the Light of Christ, provides us with a beautiful image of the learning and relationships that your children experience daily as part of their Catholic educational journey.  We hope you will feel comfortable and involved with your child’s learning journey throughout the year. We welcome your presence at school, encourage you to become active partners in the education process, and invite you to volunteer at the school whenever possible.

We would like to welcome Mr. J. Moskalyk who will be our Grade Four teacher. He brings with him a vast wealth of knowledge, experience and passion for teaching, especially in the area of technology. We are excited that Mrs. Hryschuk will be teaching full time at our school in the Grade One/Two class. We would also like to welcome our new FSLW, Ms. N. Hughes. She is very excited to be back at our school.

Edmonton Catholic Schools is pleased to announce a move to ongoing reporting in elementary schools, at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year. Parents, guardians and students will now be able to track the progress of learning throughout the school year, as opposed to waiting for the report card. This timely reporting of student progress and achievement will allow you to better understand where your child is in terms of learning. We will have a short tutorial on how to navigate the progress report portion of PowerSchool at our Meet-the-Teacher Night on September 12, 2019 at 6:30pm.

St. Richard School is a great school and it is our honor to work with you and with our staff as we embrace student learning and ‘Walking Together in the Light of Christ’. Please share your ideas, encouragements and concerns with us so that we can work together to provide the best possible learning environment for your child.

A Green STEM Focus School

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. For a number of years, we have been focusing on caring for God's creation and following the words of Pope Frances in his encyclical "Laudato Si".  Now that we have been approved as an academy, we will continue to learn about taking care of our environment as well as improving our higher level thinking skills by introducing a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  We will, of course, continue to offer a strong reading program as well as art, music and dance.

St. Richard is a  small, family-oriented school with a caring and inclusive environment that provides an academic program for students in 100 Voices through to Grade Six. Our highly motivated and dedicated staff are committed to nurturing the personal and academic growth of each student - growing and learning to his or her potential. St. Richard is a Christ-centered learning community fostering leadership and service to others. We have a spiritual partnership with our parish.   Parents are recognized as a child's first teacher and encouraged to become active participants in nurturing our students within a Catholic faith based environment.  At St. Richard's, parents are accepted, respected, and valued!
