St. Matthew School is named in honor of St. Matthew, whose Feast Day is celebrated on September 21. His symbol is an angel.
St. Matthew was a Jew, born in Galilee and employed as a collector of taxes for the Romans. Because of this, other Jews despised him. Matthew was sitting in his collection booth when Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.” Matthew left all his wealth and devoted his entire life to following Jesus and preaching the faith. He wrote his Gospel at the request of the Jewish converts so that they and the faithful would have a short history of our Blessed Redeemer.
Just as Jesus asked St. Matthew to “Follow Me,” we, at St. Matthew are challenged to follow Him in our daily actions and relationships.
