Graduation

NOTE:

Mother Margaret Mary does not have any involvement in the planning or coordinating of Graduation “after parties”, “Safe Grads” or Graduation Trips of any kind. The Graduation Liturgy & Commencement Ceremony as well as the Banquet are the extent to which Mother Margaret Mary High School coordinates graduation events for students and their families.

 

GRADUATION GOWN MEASUREMENTS:

Measurements for Graduation Gowns (for the Commencement Ceremony) took place during registration in August. Any Graduates that did not get their gown measurement done should see Mrs. S Haltiner in room 137.


BABY PHOTO(s)

Graduates were asked to bring their baby photos in August as part of the registration process in August. These photos will be displayed during the Banquet ceremony in June. Photos should be in as high of quality as possible and should be when the graduates are 2 years of age or younger.  All photos will be returned to the graduates.

STUDENT GRAD COUNCIL:

All graduates that are interested in being a part of the Student Grad Council are asked to pick up a sign up / nomination forms from Mrs. Haltiner in room 137. All forms must be completed and submitted to Mrs Haltiner by November 1st  – delivered to room 137. There will be 5 candidates chosen for this council.

All candidates will be asked to sign up for an interview with Mrs Haltiner during a flex block that she will post on Power School.

GRAD RINGS

 Jostens will be on site at Mother Margaret Mary High School for a Grad Ring Preview on Monday, November 4th and Tuesday, November 5th at lunch hour. They will be set up in the main foyer of the school for Graduates to peruse the rings and other items that are available for order.

The Order days for all Grad items from Jostens will be in Semester 2. This date is TBD.

YEARBOOK FOR GRADE 12’s

QUOTES: First of all, all quotes are read over and may be edited for grammar/punctuation. Additionally, quotes MUST be appropriate. If your quote is deemed inappropriate it will NOT be featured in the yearbook, nor will you get a second opportunity to submit a quote. 

Quotes will be submitted through the yearbook team in semester 2. Listen for morning announcements in semester 2 for the dates and processes for submitting a Grad Quote.

ORDERING: The yearbook deadline for placing your order is May 30th. For the month of April, there will be a list posted in the front entrance on the office windows of people WHO HAVE purchased a yearbook. If your name is NOT on this list, then you can order and pay for your yearbook at the book store. 


DISTRIBUTION: Yearbooks will arrive next October 2020, so be prepared to come pick yours up from the office around that time. 

 

GRADUATION PHOTOS:

December 2-11 | at Mother Margaret Mary High School

There will be an online booking site to book grad photos. This link will be shared via MMM Social Media sites and on morning announcements. It is the responsibility of the graduate to schedule their own photo times. If a session is not booked by the graduate, grad photos will not be taken.

Order forms, pricing / package options and instructions for ordering graduation photos will be included in the proofs that each student will be given following the photo taking dates.

STUDENT SPEECHES:

Class Historian(s): “Partner” combos of students may apply or be nominated by their peers to chronicle and highlight the events of the past three high school years at MMM! The speech should be light hearted, but meaningful and should capture ALL various groups of peers and events in the school.

Toast to the Parents & Graduates: This is a parent/graduate “combo” who will provide a toast to the graduates (done by the parent) and a toast to the parents (done by the graduate). Please forward your name to Mrs. Bourassa if you and your parent are interested.

Toast to the Staff: This is offered by a student to the teachers on behalf of the graduating class. This should be a meaningful speech that shares appreciation for the MMM Staff. This toast is not intended to chronicle events as the Historian Speech will.

Interested students must submit their name to Mrs. Bourassa during the week of March 30th – Aril 3rd.

 

Deadlines for Speech Writers:

Optional: Week of April 30 for students who want to go over an outline or rough plan with me prior to writing. They are expected to have looked into format and structure ahead of time and have ideas written down of what they would like in their speech. 

 

Hard deadlines: 

Week of May 4 - 6 : First Drafts Due

Week of May 19 (after long weekend): Final Drafts due. At this time, last edits and finishing touches may be applied as needed.

FINAL READ(s): May 28 | All speeches in their official, final form are due! A Flex block will be advertised meet with the students that are reading speeches on this day to do a final read-through of their work.

GRADUTATION ELIGIBILTY

Grad List: All MMM grade 12 students must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Grad List:

 

Fulfill the Graduation requirements as laid out by the Government of Alberta and Policies of Edmonton Catholic Schools.  (See page 155 of your student agenda).

 

AND

 

have status as a student in *good standing with all school fees paid in full.

 

Mass: All MMM grade 12 students in *good standing who are on the final grad list and have met Graduation requirements will be part of the Grad Mass Ceremonies. Students who are not on the grad list are welcome to attend and be part of the general student body.

 

Commencement Exercises: All MMM grade 12 students in *good standing who are on the final grad list and have met Graduation requirements will be part of the Grad Commencement Ceremonies.

 

Grad Banquet: All MMM grade 12 students in good standing are welcome to purchase tickets to celebrate their 12 years of education. Grade 12 students who are on the final grad list and have met graduation requirements, will also be included in the composite photograph, graduation video, entrance procession into the banquet and any other graduate specific activity.

 

*Student in Good Standing: MMM students in good standing have maintained a good academic average, attendance and the school motto of Faith, Education and Dedication. Behaviors or activities that are contrary to student code of conduct that may or may not result in suspensions or expulsions would jeopardize a potential graduate’s standing.

In addition, Mother Margaret Mary High School does not condone, support or assist in planning a "Grade 12 Ditch Day" in any capacity. 

The Graduation Liturgy & Commencement Ceremony as well as the Banquet are the extent to which Mother Margaret Mary High School coordinates graduation events for students and their families. 

Students that are choosing to take part in events that are outside of the Commencement and Banquet are doing so on their own accord.
