October 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It has been an exciting and rewarding start to the school year. Our District theme is Walking Together in the Light of Christ and we have embraced our new challenges and opportunities with faith, hope and optimism.

We have much to celebrate this year. To mention just a few examples:

  • We will have several Indigenous-themed academic and social initiatives this year. These activities will challenge the hearts and minds of our students and staff as we are learning the importance of providing opportunities for all to listen, share and understand the plight of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. Activities carried out this year will encourage all of us to work towards creating empathy and understanding and reconciliation – the basis of peaceful relationships between peoples and nations.
  • October 2nd is Custodian Appreciation Day. We thank our custodial staff for all they do to make our learning and working spaces so safe, inviting and engaging. Thank you to Francis, Marlowe, Dennis, and Jerilyn…please know how much we appreciate you!
  • October 5th is World Teachers' Day. The theme this year is Teachers, the heartbeat of public education. We encourage everyone to wear blue on October 5th to celebrate the distinctive, valuable work of Catholic education.
  • October 7 – 11 is Read-In Week. We welcome many special guests who are with us to share their love of reading with our children.

Our Thanksgiving celebration will take place on Friday, October 11th at 10:00am. As always, parents/guardians and family members are welcome to attend. On October 25th, we will be celebrating a memorial mass for Sister Annata, to mark three years since her passing. Many of Sister Annata's family members will be with us as we come together to remember our much loved namesake.

As October begins, and Thanksgiving is upon us, we are reminded of how important it is to be grateful for all that we have. We are filled with gratitude for all of our students, parents, and staff. Each of us has an important duty and responsibility to lift each other up and bring peace and harmony to the world.

Many blessings to all of you for a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
