YOU CAN DO IT!  YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Starting January 17, 2017, until February 16, 2017, go to hockeyhelpskids.ca to vote Team Nugent-Hopkins to win $25,000 for Sport Central and help kids in Edmonton and northern Alberta participate in sport! Vote daily on each device that you own.

Did you know that 1 in 3 Canadian children do not participate in organized sport? A recent report published by KidSport and CIBC found the two major barriers that prevent children from participating are enrollment and equipment fees. There is a way that you can help!

Sport Central is a volunteer driven charity that has been providing sport equipment to children in need in Edmonton and Northern Alberta for 25 years. Since its inception in 1991, Sport Central has provided over 125,000 kids with safe gear, enabling them to participate in the sport of their choice.

Hockey Helps Kids is a unique contest that supports charities in the Edmonton area. When Chloe and Harrison Katz set out to explore opportunities to make a difference in the community, they decided that there were two things they wanted to focus on: hockey and kids.  With that, the foundation of “Hockey Helps Kids” was born – an exciting new way to raise awareness and funds for a variety of local charities and strengthen the relationship between the Oilers and the community.

Four Edmonton schools have been selected and each paired up with a player from the Oilers. Father Michael Troy School, captained by Oiler Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, chose Sport Central as their charity. Team RNH is competing for fan votes to win $25,000 for Sport Central from Hockey Helps Kids.  The team with the most votes on February 16, 2017 wins.

The student team at Father Michael Troy has produced a two-minute video highlighting the important work that Sport Central and its many volunteers do in the community. It features the story of Dr. Chris Le, a former client of Sport Central, whose life was transformed after his principal took him to Sport Central to be outfitted in goalie gear which his family could otherwise not have afforded. This video will be showcased at the Oilers game on January 18, 2017 at Rogers Place.
