Our Patron Saint:  St. John Bosco

patron_saint.gif

John Bosco was born in Italy in 1815. Poverty and a lack of formal education did not stop John from developing his talents. As a youngster, he was known and respected as the town's acrobat and juggler. Many people would assemble to witness his tricks. What was amazing is the fact that before any performance, he would ask his audience to join him in prayer.

At the age of twenty-six, John was ordained priest. He was now ready to make his contribution toward the poor and homeless, committing his work and style of living to the building up of people. His ministry forced him to beg for jobs for the boys he was helping. He visited private homes, taught night classes, heard confessions, and celebrated the Eucharist. Most of all, he helped what today we call 'young offenders' by providing food and shelter, education and training.

St. John Bosco Feast Day: January 31

He founded the Daughters of Mary, Help of Christians, and the Salesians.  St John Bosco's feast day is on January 31. The Church has named him the Universal Patron of Youth, and therefore we hope to draw on the vision of this great saint as we work together to establish this new school community.
