Indigenous Learning Services

Reconciliation is the process and goal of creating societal change through a fundamental shift in thinking and attitudes, increasing intercultural understanding to build a better society” (Alberta Education - Leadership Quality Standard, 2016). In Edmonton Catholic Schools, we are committed to “restoring and honouring the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action; we strongly believe that truth must be acknowledged to move forward to reconciliation” (Edmonton Catholic Schools - Land Acknowledgment , 2017). This commitment includes supports for Indigenous Students through programs such as Braided Journeys and a district-wide focus on staff and student learning about Indigenous histories and cultures. We will continue to learn the truth together, in hopes of one day building a relationship built on reconciliation and mutual respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.
