Mathematical processes (the “How” to  bring the outcome to life) have been eliminated.  However good pedagogy remains, and the “how” to bring the program to life will be a focus in implementation.  

  • The “Organizing Ideas” mirror the “Strands” in the current Program of Studies
  • Ample opportunity for cross curricular connections
  • All outcomes are intended to be achieved without the use of calculators
  • Specific vocabulary, strategies and mathematical understandings are clearly identified
  • Time is introduced as an “Organizing Idea” starting in Kindergarten
  • Large quantities are introduced at an earlier age (place value into to 1000s at grade 2)
  • Partitioning, fraction and statistics are introduced in grade 1
