St. Patrick
St. Patrick (previously One World ... One Centre) LINC program opened in November 2011. Since then, the full time program has grown from 6 classes to 18 with a capacity of 300+ students. This site offers Literacy (Foundation L to 4L) and CLB classes (1 - 6*), including 2 online classes, Care for Newcomer Children (13 months to 5 years old), a playground, a gymnasium, and a student lounge with access to three other meeting areas.
Centrally located near numerous bus routes, this site is easy to access, community friendly, and takes pride in participating in many community activities and field trips. Summer programming is in place for students who have children in the K-9 school systems so that students are able to continue with their studies through the summer time. Partnerships include Catholic Social Services, Early Learning Outreach Programs, Edmonton Public Libraries, and Schools and Community Hubs. Numerous translators offering approximately 12 languages work through the building. Continuous enrollment (year round) allows for uninterrupted learning for English Language Learners.
There are 18 full time instructors, 2 administrative assistants, 2 student advisors, 1 lead teacher and 1 full time coordinator on staff. The full time program offers two separate streams: CLB and Foundations coverings all language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing); however, Foundations or Literacy classes provide a slower paced learning for reading and writing. Students have the advantage of working with teachers who are specially trained for their literacy needs.
The part time program is a good alternative for students who are working during the day and offers one stream, CLB 1 - 6*, which emphasizes listening and speaking while also providing reading and writing instruction.
