The weather forecast for the next few days will see temperatures steady near minus 20 not including wind chill; Edmonton Catholic Schools reminds parents and guardians that children must be dressed for this cold weather by wearing warm hats, gloves and boots in case they need to wait longer for their bus. It’s important a child knows to return home or to a pre-selected location if the bus does not arrive within 20 minutes of its scheduled time.
Parents are advised to exercise their own discretion as to how long a student should wait for a school bus in inclement weather. For more information, parents can contact their child’s school or the District’s Transportation Services Department at (780) 441-6078. Transportation Services is open from 7:15 am until 5:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on early dismissal Thursdays.
Edmonton Catholic Schools are always open. Our transportation system also has an excellent record for service. However, if severe weather causes school bus routes to be cancelled, the information will be available on the following media outlets:
- Edmonton Radio Stations
- Edmonton TV Stations
Any bus route cancellations will begin being broadcast at 6:30 a.m. Parents should also ensure that during cold weather their children:
- are supervised at the bus stop
- have a place to go in the event the bus does not arrive
- have alternate arrangements for getting to school should the bus not arrive
- are dressed to withstand weather extremes.
