Amoris Laetitia Chapter Nine and Conclusion
Now there are varieties of gifts … and there are varieties of services … and there are varieties of activities,
but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation
of the Spirit for the common good. ~1 Corinthians 12:4-7~
This passage from Paul's first letter to the Corinthians provides the setting for a beautiful reflection as the school year is coming to an end. Our students have spent the past year discovering their gifts and talents, and growing strong and confident in their abilities. These scriptural words, and the ones that follow them in Paul's letter, bring us back to the Truth that as unique as each of us is, we are all members of the Body of Christ. This is the beauty of Catholic education. We honor our diversity and know that it is designed to be used to build up that Body, our community, and make our world a better, stronger, more loving place.
The Government of Alberta (GOA) has extended the timelines for school districts to complete their budgets. As a result, our school district will present its budget to the Board of Trustees at their June 20 Public Board Meeting. We are also awaiting regulations from GOA with respect to the reduction of school fees by 25% so that we can ensure that our fee schedules align with their guidelines. We anticipate that schools will be able to share fee schedules with their schools by the third week of June.
Edmonton Catholic Schools offers many different learning opportunities for our high school students to extend their learning. Visit our Alternative Education website to learn more about diploma prep classes and summer school opportunities. https://www.ecsd.net/schools/8412/Pages/default.aspx
June 21, National Aboriginal Day, will see our students and staff have many opportunities to engage in celebrations of indigenous culture and learning opportunities. It is an excellent occasion for us to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of our country and its people!
We have had so many opportunities to celebrate Canada 150 over the course of the past several months. The celebration will not end on Canada Day. One of the resources that has become a favorite is the Canada 150 playlist. It offers all kinds of suggestions for you to get active, and would be great for families to explore over the summer. https://www.participaction.com/en-ca/programs/participaction-150-play-list
June also brings for us a special celebration of fathers and the men who fill that role in the lives of our children. Please join me in blessing them with this adaptation of the Breastplate of St. Patrick.
Christ, be with him, Christ before him, Christ behind him,
Christ in him, Christ beneath him, Christ above him,
Christ on his right, Christ on his left, Christ where he lies, Christ where he sits,
Christ where he arises, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of him,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of him,
Christ in every eye that sees him, Christ in every ear that hears him.
I leave you with a final thought from Pope Francis, tweeted on the Feast of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary: "May St. Joseph, Spouse of Mary and Patron of the Universal Church, bless you and watch over you. And best wishes to fathers!"
(March 19, 2017)
Have a wonderful rest of the school year, and may this summer bring you much joy and adventure as you delight in the blessings to be found in the change of pace that comes with the warm, sunny days!
