Potential School Bus Delays
September 8, 2021
As a follow-up to the letter we sent on September 2, we continue to experience significant transportation delays as our contracted carriers deal with a shortage of school bus drivers. We understand that this is extremely frustrating for our families, and we are so sorry for this inconvenience.
Our contracted carriers are actively recruiting, hiring, and training drivers to meet the needs of our Division and others in the Edmonton area. However, we expect further delays for September due to the number of drivers required and the four-week timeframe needed to have a driver trained, tested, and on the road. We anticipate that with the addition of drivers each week, these delays will come to an end.
Transportation Services relies on our contracted carriers to inform our Division of any delays for us to send notifications to parents as soon as possible. However, with the increasing volume of calls at carrier dispatches, it is challenging for them to send communication to us promptly to pass on the information. Our commitment to families and schools is to communicate as soon as we are made aware of a delay, which takes less than 30 seconds to process the alert and immediately displays in our notification system.
Edmonton Catholic Schools utilizes two communication tools to keep parents informed about their child’s bus route:
- Bus Delay board: a webpage listing all reported school bus delays in ECSD. https://busplannerweb.ecsd.net/Alerts
- BusDelays App: a new app providing real-time notifications about school bus delays. https://www.ecsd.net/page/34228/transportation-services-bus-delay-notifications
We are diligently working with our contracted carriers to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.
