Holy Week & Easter 2021
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, which marks Jesus' triumhant entry into Jerusalem. The central feature of this celebration is the procession of palms.
Especially important for Catholics is the Easter Triduum. The Triduum, standing at the heart of the Easter season, is an intense immersion in the fundamental mystery of what it means to be Christian. This is the three days just before Easter.
On Holy Thursday, we reenact the Lord's Last Supper, which he shared with His apostles on the night he was betrayed and arrested. This is one of the most beautiful liturgies of the entire liturgical year.
On Good Friday, the day of the crucifixion and death of our Lord, we have the veneration of the Cross when we honour and show respect for Christ's sacrifice for our sake.
Holy Saturday is the Vigil. During this most solemn and moving liturgy, we keep watch for the expectant rising of our Saviour.
Easter is the greatest celebration in the Catholic Church because it is the completion of Holy Week, ending with the resurrection of Jesus. Easter celebrates the beginning and the foundation of the Christian faith.
