Pink Shirt Day - February 24th, 2021
Pink Shirt Day is Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The movement began in 2007 when a student in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. It has since been recognized annually worldwide as a day to stand against bullying. This year’s national theme is “Lifting Each Other Up” with a mission to spread empathy and kindness.
This year, we are once again expecting a sea of pink in our schools as we work together to raise awareness about bullying prevention and highlight where to turn if in need of help. Getting your school involved is easy. Wear a pink shirt, take a photo and share it on social media with the #PinkShirtDay and #ECSDfaithinspires hashtags.
You may notice this year some people may be wearing white on Pink Shirt Day. The national organization, which produces an annual shirt, has decided to make this year’s shirt white. The organizers said they wanted to provide a shirt that would not only be worn one day a year, but that would be worn again and again.
The province will be providing downloadable resources on its website soon, https://www.alberta.ca/pink-shirt-day-alberta.aspx
