ECSD will commemorate this special moment in our country's history by recognizing Canada's 150th throughout 2017!
On July 1, 2017, Canadians will come together to celebrate our nation's 150th anniversary of Confederation. ECSD staff and students are invited to take part in the celebration by participating in or hosting activities and events to commemorate Canada's Sesquicentennial. Check out the resources below for ways to get involved.
The main themes of the Government of Canada's vision for the 150th anniversary of Confederation that we encourage you to celebrate are:
-
Diversity and inclusion – To continue building a welcoming Canada where there is a place for everyone, a Canada where everyone can reach his or her full potential.
-
Reconciliation from with Indigenous peoples –To support the vital work of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples as outlined in the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Reconciliation is a journey for all Canadians as we move forward into Canada's next 150 years.
-
Youth – To continue to engage young people and give them the means to contribute to our society, because they are the ones who will shape tomorrow's Canada.
-
Environment – To be the custodians of our environment, because it is a source of our country's wealth and pride. We want to bring Canadians closer to nature in order to strengthen their environmental awareness.
