Work Experience for Foundations Students
Our Student Employability Advisor helps students from our Foundations Programs to find volunteer work in construction, healthcare, restaurants, hotels, and many more industries. Participant students are at a CLB 3 in both Listening and Speaking skills, pass an interview, receive orientation and volunteer work one day a week while enrolled in classes.
July 31, 2018 was the first graduation ceremony for this program. Six students completed their work experience placements which lasted four months. These students learned about the Canadian work environment, acquired new skills and received a certificate of completion. Some of them continue volunteering at their work placements and one of them was hired!
Sewing & Embroidery for Women's Program
Our Sewing & Embroidery program at St. Francis is a one-of-a kind, it provides a valuable space for women to gain practical skills while they learn, practice and strengthen their English language and numeracy skills. So far we have been able to exhibit over 200 projects created by our learners. Hand embroidery projects have been introduced to our beginning sewing levels, cross stitching to our intermediate students and sewing machine projects to our more advanced sewers. Here are some pictures of our projects,
