TM Reading is a series of instructional programs for students with significant literacy difficulties. The program was developed by specialists and is the culmination of 30 years of research by the Learning Disabilities Research Program (LDRP) at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto.
TM Reading offers a comprehensive approach to teaching children with reading disabilities the skills needed to analyze text, decode words, and successfully learn to read and gain knowledge from written materials. This full year program is designed to teach struggling readers a set of five meta-cognitive strategies for decoding and spelling. Empower
TM Reading is intended for students who are reading significantly below age-level expectations (i.e. 2 years below grade level and/or non-readers and have a diagnosed Learning Disorder.)
TM Reading is available for elementary-aged children in two possible pathways: community schools may have a trained teacher on site and offer
programming; or, students may attend an Empower
TM Reading program at a congregated site within the school district. If a student attends Empower TM Reading at a congregated site, it is for one year only. The student returns to their community school the following year.
